Committee opposes a limit on dogs
Also under the latest version, residents would have the right to seek an exemption to have more animals. "This limiting dogs I don't think is the way to go," said Phil Hart, a committee member and township trustee. Committee member Robert Thorne wanted stricter penalties for violators of the existing animal control ordinance. "So we can put a limit to bad ownership," he said. Township Public Safety Director Jerry Champagne said the ordinance was in the beginning stage. During the public-comment period, resident Candy Fromer told the committee that she lived next to a pit bull rescue shelter and that it has been terrifying for her and her family. "An animal rescue shouldn't be located in a residential area," she said.
